Built by Hotel People.

Saltscape Hospitality wasn't created by investors looking for another asset class. It was created by people who genuinely love independent hotels.

The kind of people who notice thoughtful architecture, appreciate historic buildings, obsess over guest reviews, debate room layouts, and understand that a perfectly run breakfast service can become someone's favorite travel memory.

That perspective shapes every property we own, every hotel we manage, and every partnership we build.

Our Story

Independent hospitality is changing.

Guests increasingly seek places with personality instead of predictability. Owners face growing operational complexity while trying to preserve what made their properties special in the first place.

Saltscape Hospitality exists to bridge those two realities. We combine disciplined operations with a deep respect for independent hospitality, helping owners build stronger businesses without sacrificing authenticity.

Because the best boutique hotels never feel manufactured. They feel personal.

The Team

Meet the founders.

Co-Founder & COO

Chris Drake

Chris has spent more than 13 years in the hospitality industry, beginning with a Hospitality Management degree from the University of New Hampshire before managing independent hotels throughout New England. He has done it all — from scrubbing toilets and doing laundry to being a GM/owner. Over the course of his career he has managed several independent hotels ranging from 9 to 32 guest rooms and currently owns a 16 room boutique hotel that recently completed an extensive 8 month long renovation.

Chris' specialty is in day to day operations. He obsesses over operational efficiency and the guest experience. He believes that if our tasks are not either making our team's lives easier or giving the guest a better experience, then it is probably something that we don't need to be doing.

Co-Founder & CRO

Matt McDonald

Matt's experience in the hospitality industry stems from the short term rental world. He started out by building an STR Cohosting company before getting into managing boutique hotels. Over the last 8 years, he has managed 5 boutique hotels and a portfolio of STRs, overseeing more than 100 hospitality doors at one point.

Matt's specialty is revenue management. With a Hotel Revenue Management certification from Cornell, Matt obsesses over the numbers. He is a wiz at understanding when you need to adjust the rates vs when you need to let dynamic pricing do its thing. Matt is also a coach within the STR Secrets community teaching students how to manage boutique hotels and short term rentals.

The Name

What does Saltscape mean?

Salt. This is where our roots are. We are both from the North Shore of MA. We love being on the coast. It is our home and it is who we are.

Scape. This one has a few meanings… Landscape. We are obsessed with the beautiful landscape of New England, whether it is the rocky coastline of Maine to the beautiful mountain towns of Vermont. Escape. We love visiting new destinations. There is something about escaping to a new small town, staying at the local historic inn and taking it all in from a local's perspective.

Together, we created Saltscape Hospitality.
